Principal eigenvalue for an elliptic problem with indefinite weight on cylindrical domains.
This paper is concerned with an indefinite weight linear eigenvalue problem in cylindrical domains. We investigate the minimization of the positive principal eigenvalue under the constraint that the weight is bounded by a positive and a negative constant and the total weight is a fixed negative constant. Biologically, this minimization problem is motivated by the question of determining the opt...
متن کاملPrincipal Eigenvalue Minimization for an Elliptic Problem with Indefinite Weight and Robin Boundary Conditions
This paper focuses on the study of a linear eigenvalue problem with indefinite weight and Robin type boundary conditions. We investigate the minimization of the positive principal eigenvalue under the constraint that the absolute value of the weight is bounded and the total weight is a fixed negative constant. Biologically, this minimization problem is motivated by the question of determining t...
متن کاملAn Eigenvalue Problem for Elliptic Systems
By means of non-smooth critical point theory we prove existence of weak solutions for a general nonlinear elliptic eigenvalue problem under natural growth conditions .
متن کاملAn Overdetermined Problem for an Elliptic Equation
We consider the following overdetermined boundary value problem: ∆u+ λu+ μ = 0 in Ω, u = 0 on ∂Ω and ∂u/∂n = c on ∂Ω, where c 6= 0, λ and μ are real constants and Ω ⊂ R is a smooth bounded convex open set. We first show that it may happen that the problem has no solution. Then we study the existence of solutions for a wide class of domains. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification: 35J05, 35R30.
متن کاملAn eigenvalue problem for a fully nonlinear elliptic equation with gradient constraint
We consider the problem of finding λ ∈ R and a function u : Rn → R that satisfy the PDE max { λ+ F(D2u)− f (x), H(Du) = 0, x ∈ Rn . Here F is elliptic, positively homogeneous and superadditive, f is convex and superlinear, and H is typically assumed to be convex. Examples of this type of PDE arise in the theory of singular ergodic control. We show that there is a unique λ∗ for which the above e...
